5th Annual Denver Go SkateBoarding Day

    Denver Skate Day Flyer

    Denver Skate Day Flyer

June 21st in Denver this year, skateboarders came out in masses to the Denver Skatepark for a long hot day of skateboarding, art, and music. There was the Biggest Fish In The Pond contests along with public art walls and live music.

Beginner and Intermediate contests were held in the morning in the main street course. Every year the level of skating improves, and this year was no exception, in all skill levels. Notable mentions go out to Lovis Medina who took the intermediate contest without even trying. Since when is a kickflip boardslide down a rail is an intermediate trick? And Ruben Vigil who had a solid couple runs to take the beginners contest.

The public art walls were a big success. Dave Sheets (resident BoardPusher artist) managed hordes of kids with paint markers and spray cans, a feat that can’t be claimed by many. The end result was worth all the trouble though. 8 different panels were filled with the most random stuff you could imagine, and remains a sort of artistic account of the day.

The Biggest Fish In The Pond Pro-Am contests, turned out to be a true battle of the locals. The contestants seemed pleased that all the pros that were in town that day decided to leave the contest alone. Despite being interrupted by the cops trying to shut down the event and the firemen having to pull a kid with a broken leg out of the peanut bowl, the contests went off smoothly. The street finalists even got an extended finals run while most of the event staff were dealing with the local law enforcement, giving all the onlookers a worthy show.

In the street course, 1. Julian Christianson ended up on top with an arsenal of tech tricks over the hip that even the best could have trouble rivaling, including nollie bigger spins and nollie 270 heels, with amplitude to spare. Closely followed by park resident 3. Lee Wilson, and the biggest kickflip of the day 2. Whyatt. The peanut bowl contest was an easy win for 1. Otto Pfanz followed by 2. Michael DeBuano with large frontside airs, and 3. Cameron Lawrence who skated twice as fast as anyone else. The toughest showing of the day goes to 10 year-old Evan Tooley who fell straight to his head twice in row into the deep end of the peanut bowl and didn’t even seem to mind. Keep an eye on that kid.

After the contests came to an end, the music turned up and the performances began. Two straight hours of underground Denver hip hop (Bionik Brown, Whygee, and EFK) in the middle of the park took the event into the night and ended a long day of fun. Make sure to come next year if you’re in the area.

Announcing Official Launch of BoardPusher.com Online Shops

Skaters and designers can now sell skateboard decks online at BoardPusher.com

DENVER, CO (April 24, 2006) – BoardPusher.com, the premier website for designing and purchasing custom skateboard decks, announced today the launch of the Online Shop feature of their website, allowing users to offer their decks through an online storefront.

BoardPusher.com Online Shops are highly customizable for HTML experts, but also include templates to easily set up a professional and original looking online shop. Founder of ELife Skateboards Rob Stamm comments, “This is the solution I’ve been searching for. Not only are the shops easy to set up and manage, but the decks are awesome; great wood and amazing graphics.”

By using a unique digital heat transfer process, BoardPusher.com is able to print any graphic, including full color photographs, with a crisp and professional finish. Unlike conventional silk screening that involved lengthy and pricey setups, this process allows BoardPusher.com to offer quick turnarounds, with no minimum quantities or setup fees. All decks are manufactured to the highest industry standards using 7-ply Canadian Maple, and are available in 6 different sizes in high and medium concaves.

BoardPusher.com co-founder and life-long skateboarder Lucas Bond states that, “This is the fastest and easiest way for designers, skate shop owners, and small skate teams to start pushing their own decks online. The online shops will not only give designers more recognition and money, but will also provide an outlet to promote local teams, artists and interests.”

Shop membership rates are $5 per month or $50 per year, but for a limited time, BoardPusher.com will give users a free deck ($49.99 value) of their choice with the purchase of a full year membership.

BoardPusher Selling One-Off Custom Skateboards for $50

    Crisp Graphics on Top-Notch Wood

DENVER, CO (June 22, 2005) – You can now design skateboard deck graphics on the BoardPusher.com website. The BoardPusher.com Deck Generator allows you to easily create deck graphics online regardless of your design experience, providing you with a large selection of fonts and pre-designed backgrounds.

BoardPusher.com will apply your graphic to a 7-ply Canadian Maple deck and sell it to you for $50, shrink-wrapped with grip and stickers. The graphics are applied using a unique full-color digital heat transfer process, giving you a deck that looks like it just came off the shelf at a shop.

The belittlement of the importance and artistic value of decks graphics, along with the migration of wood manufacturing to China, and the overall decline in the quality of skateboards, are the main reasons BoardPusher.com has decided to start offering this service.

BoardPusher.com co-founder Lucas Bond says: ‘It has taken us longer than we expected, but we are now proud to offer one-off decks that look and skate as well or better than any other deck on the market.’

BoardPusher.com has been hosting a photo forum open to public submission and comment since 2003. BoardPusher.com is owned and operated by skateboarders in Denver, CO. For more information, contact @BoardPusher.com">info@BoardPusher.com.
